Mumford & Sons- Sign No More Advert

We decided to look at some existing adverts for Mumford & Sons to help give us ideas and influence from the artist cover we are using and from a group that fit with the indie pop genre. On this example the title is positioned in the centre at the top of the advert. The large writing makes it the main focus of the whole advert. From looking at other mumford & sons albums and adverts etc we found that they tend to fit to the same font for the band name and this is something we think we are going to follow as it keeps the whole music video, digi pak and advert fit and tie together well with the same theme throughout.  This advert is quite simple without much writing other than the reviews. This tends to be a common thing that artists but on adverts and posters.
The Mumford & Sons icon is visible at the side of the advert. This icon is something that is frequent through all mumford & sons work. This makes their albums and work recognisable to them which i think is a good way to link everything together.
The image fills up alot of the advert which immediately makes it stand out and a main focus. The image is kept quite simple and the members clothing colours blend in well with the background colour of the advert, almost like a theme throughout. The image is also quite simple just mainly showing the members and instruments, this could be a way of representing the music they play as it is also quite simple.

Coldplay Advert

This is a magazine advert promoting the new album called 'Mylo-oxyl-oto'. I think this advert is really good because we have found that all the products, album work and adverts for this new album fit to the same theme and style. I think the bright graffiti background

This advert for the most recent album called 'mylo-oxyl-oto'. I think this style of advertising is interesting as the advert itself doesn't have must to it. However i think it works effectively as it does get the viewer thinking about it. Because at first glance the image looks quite simple with no real focus on anything. However once you start to pay attention to the background pattern you see that it is made up of a lot of small drawings that link to the songs. I think this is a good idea because this advert is basically a blow up of the album itself and this ties all the work together well. I think on this advert the most evident text is not the album cover that would be expected because of its size and the typography used but the small clear white font at the bottom which is the only actual text used to promote the album.

Explaining root of memories idea

When planning our album and deciding on a suitable name we felt we wanted something that made the whole album more of a personal and meaningful piece. We thought about the whole concept of the music video and the narrative and felt memories was a good way of describing it.We then decided the name 'THE ROOT OF MEMORIES' was a perfect name as it shows the audience this is an album and past memories and experiences. We felt it was something that made a more personal link to the audience and perfectly explained the whole 'love story' style to not only the lover eyes music video but the album digi pak aswell and the rest of the songs included. We also thought it went well with the beach theme we have stuck to throughout as the beach and the sea side are often associated with good happy memories and an ideal place to relax and reminisce about memories.

Noah and the whale research

I think this advert is simple but effective as successfully represents the band and their style of music. Because the album is called 'The First Days of Spring' it makes sense to have a bright and spring style colour to the advert. The pale blue in the back ground really brightens up the advert and gives it a warm pleasant feel to it. It also allows the black font that isn't a particularly bold out standing font more visible. Because the typography used is subtle and quite a light style any other colour background could make it less noticeable and this would make the advert less good. By having the artists involved in the advert i think it gives it a more personal feel and helps link the music and the artist to the audience and the person looking at or listening to the album. The pastel style theme of this advert links well with the title of the album that it is promoting. From my research i also found that this image and style was used also as the album art, this meant it makes the artist easily recognised and ties the advert with the album successfully. By having the album name at the top of the advert in the largest font it means its the first thing the audience sees and reads which is a good way of promoting the album itself. The artists name is also the second biggest text of this advert as it is the second most important part. This text is closer to the centre of the ad and this makes it something the audience would be immediately drawn to. This is the type of simple style and simple advert that we would like to focus on for our own work.

Final Album design

We have decided as a group that this is the design we have picked for our album cover. Although the image of the cover is a girl and this does give the impression of it being a album of a girl artist we think this makes our project unique. We have tried to deviate from the typical indie pop album work and aim to target at a wider audience rather than limiting it to a audience of one gender. We think because the album cover does seem quite feminine it attracts a female audience on that aspect but because the artist is male it also appeals to males aswell. We think by having the thin black lines around the side of the artist name it makes the main focus of the album cover and this what we want. We think the captial lettering also makes it the most important text of the album cover because it is the artists name. Out of all the album designs we have looked at for the front cover we think the positioning of the text in this design is the best because it stands out well against the light blue sky making the bold font more eye catching. We think this image is perfect as the way the fence is positioned behind Catherines character draws all the attention to her holding the balloon. The sea in the background and the rest of the beach setting gives the whole image a quite calm feel which is the thing we were wanting to portray. We are planning on tidying the cover up using Adobe photoshop as this image was done on paint and its made it slightly pixilated. We are also going to brighten up the balloon as the filter we have used over the top of the image has made it look slightly pink and we want to stick to a red balloon as this is an iconic image throughout the whole of our project.
